We begin with a conversation. We take time to understand the concept, the construction, and the materials behind the idea. We explore fabrics and trims together, share knowledge, and provide access to our supplier network. At the same time, we always encourage designers to explore and source materials themselves as well, so the process stays creative and informed from both sides.
Pattern making is the next essential step: this is where everything starts to take shape. A well-made pattern is the foundation of every garment, the blueprint that everything else is built on. We create professional patterns that reflect the designer’s vision, ensure proper fit and proportions, and prepare the piece for sampling and production.
Whether a designer brings a sketch, a reference picture, a reference garment, or a detailed tech pack, we translate that concept into a production-ready pattern. Our patterns are developed digitally and can be provided in both digital and physical formats, depending on the needs of the project.
Once the pattern is ready, we move into sampling: this is where the idea becomes real. The first sample is the moment a design steps out of paper and becomes something you can see, touch, and feel.
During sampling, we construct the garment, evaluate fit and proportions, test construction and design details, and identify areas for refinement. This stage is not just about making a piece, it’s about understanding how it lives in real fabric, real movement, and real life. It also allows us to evaluate efficiency and clarity for future production.
Great garments are not made in one step. They evolve. That’s why we continue with fittings and revisions, refining the design through adjustments, pattern corrections, and construction improvements. Our goal is always the same: to help designers arrive at the strongest, most considered version of their product before production begins.
The prototype is typically developed in one size. Once it is approved, we move into grading, because a garment is only complete when it can exist across multiple sizes. Our grading services help designers expand their pieces while maintaining fit, proportion, and design integrity.
Before production starts, clear and precise documentation is essential. When our clients are ready to move forward with larger manufacturers, we support them by preparing detailed tech packs, measurement specifications, construction notes, and production-ready files. This step reduces misunderstandings, improves consistency, and ensures a smoother production process overall.
For many independent designers, large-scale production is not always the right or necessary step. Fashion Studio No.5 offers small to mid-batch production, allowing brands to test the market, reduce inventory risk, maintain quality control, and grow at a pace that feels sustainable.
